What To Expect During Image Guided Brain Surgery?

The day has finally come and it is time for your surgery. Before you leave for the hospital, verify that you have everything from your checklist. Bringing your insurance documents with you on the day of your brain surgery may be helpful, such as your membership card, authorization letter or codes, signed claims form, or any similar forms.

You may have been given strict guidelines for the day of surgery including1:

  • Do not drink or eat for 8 to 12 hours before your surgery
  • Remember to take all the drugs prescribed by your doctor; try to take all these medications with a small sip of water
  • Keep on schedule by arriving to the hospital on time

You will need to change out of your regular clothes and put on a hospital gown before you go the pre-operative area. Following your doctor’s instructions, don’t forget to remove all jewelry and find a safe place to keep it, usually with a friend or relative. Do not wear contact lenses, jewelry, make-up or nail polish on the day of surgery. You may also need to remove any loose dentures or other items that could come loose during surgery.2
