Rock Star Glioblastoma Patient Raising Awareness For Brain Cancer

Gord Downie, lead singer of the Canadian rock band, the Tragically Hip, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma—an aggressive form of brain cancer—in late 2015. The band performed one final tour in August 2016 with Downie’s lead physician, James Perry, MD, at his side the entire tour.

According Dr. Perry, head of neurology at Sunnybrook Health in Toronto,  Downie and the band are dedicated to raising awareness about and funds for brain cancer research. When celebrities work to remove the stigma of brain disease, there is hope that an even greater impact on the disease can be realized. As part of their efforts, the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research was created.
